442 Tons of Custom-Cut Steel Plates to Australia: Monthly Repeat Orders Since 2018

In 2019, the client first entrusted PAC with custom-cut plate for pipe surface welding, a core component of its drilling projects. Mining and energy drilling work in Australia demands extremely high precision and durability from consumable parts. Combining PAC's advantages in price and lead time, the client moved from an initial trial order to routine monthly repeat orders.

442 Tons of Custom-Cut Steel Plates to Australia: Monthly Repeat Orders Since 2018

1. Project Background: A Five-Year Run of Trust

The client is a long-standing Australian customer. Since partnering with PAC in 2018, the two sides have built a deep rapport through continuous collaboration.

In 2019, the client first entrusted PAC with custom-cut plate for pipe surface welding, a core component of its drilling projects. 2. The Core Challenge: Complex Profile Cutting and Ocean Transit Protection

This shipment of 442 tonnes of cut plate components posed two main challenges:

  1. Highly complex processing: as the four-panel photos show, the batch includes highly irregular saw-tooth and star-shaped parts (Photo 1, top left), high-density circular flanges (Photo 1, top right) and precision ring structures (Photo 1, bottom left). These parts demand extreme CNC cutting accuracy and smooth edges, with no deviation permitted.
  2. Moisture and impact protection for the Australian route: Australia is surrounded by ocean and its climate is highly variable. If these finely machined parts rust or are knocked out of shape at sea, they are scrap and cannot go to the drilling site.

3. On Site: Textbook Processing and Packing

  1. Hard-Core CNC Cutting (Photo 1)

  • Star-shaped and profile parts (Photo 1, top left): the complex grooves and sharp corners are cut cleanly with no dross, exactly to drawing.
  • Circular flanges (Photo 1, top right): hundreds of discs stacked neatly in custom wooden cases, highly consistent in size with smoothly ground edges.
  • Ring parts (Photo 1, bottom left): inner and outer circles cut to high precision, ready for direct welding or assembly.
  1. Fortress-Level Packing, Layer After Layer (Photos 1 and 2)

For high-value machined parts, PAC's packing standard is uncompromising:

  • Custom wooden cases and pallets: all parts are first stacked neatly on sturdy timber bases (Photo 1, top right).
  • Multi-layer moisture-proof wrapping: in the dispatch yard (Photo 2), every stack is wrapped layer upon layer in heavy transparent industrial film. This completely blocks the salt-laden, humid sea air to prevent rust, and also holds loose parts in place so nothing shifts or collides in heavy seas.
  • High-strength strapping: multiple black straps are cross-tensioned over the outer layer for rock-solid stability.

4. Delivery Results: Earning Long-Term Business on Performance

Client feedback: "Thanks to their price advantage and delivery times, we now place orders with them every month."

Five years on, the relationship has moved from a straightforward buy-sell arrangement to PAC acting as an indispensable extended machine shop for the client's Australian drilling projects, won over by impeccable quality, highly competitive pricing and rock-steady lead times.

5. Closing

Cutting is more than breaking a plate down to a drawing; it is the reshaping of process and precision.

PAC Steel: advantages in CNC plate cutting and profile processing:

  • High-precision CNC cutting across material grades: flame and plasma cutting and custom profile machining of NM400 / Q235B / Q345B and other plate grades.
  • Complex drawing development and zero-tolerance verification: dross-free cutting and high-flatness grinding of star-shaped parts, rings, flanges and other complex geometries.
  • Fortress-level ocean packing against moisture and impact: custom wooden cases and pallets, multi-layer industrial film sealing and high-strength strapping for corrosion-free, loss-free ocean transit.
