650 Tons of Heavy Steel Structures Shipped to Indonesia for Belt and Road Infrastructure

Infrastructure demand across Southeast Asia continues to rise, and Indonesia—a key country along the Belt and Road—is rapidly building industrial plants, bridges and large public facilities. A major Chinese engineering contractor won a flagship infrastructure project in Indonesia and needed to source high-strength, high-precision heavy steel structures in large volumes.

1. Project Background

In recent years, infrastructure demand across Southeast Asia has continued to grow. Indonesia, a key country along the Belt and Road, is vigorously advancing the construction of industrial plants, bridges and large public facilities. A major domestic engineering company successfully won a key infrastructure project in Indonesia and needed to procure large volumes of high-strength, high-precision heavy steel structures. After rigorous supplier screening and on-site audits, we secured the 650-ton order on the strength of our production capacity, advanced anti-corrosion coating processes and proven overseas logistics experience.

2. Project Challenges

Tight delivery schedule: The overseas project had fixed milestones and ocean freight rates were volatile, so all components had to be delivered to port within the stipulated sailing window.

Difficult lifting and loading of heavy components: The shipment included numerous large H-section columns and oversized custom bracing members, each with significant volume and weight, placing extremely high demands on lifting equipment and loading safety.

High standards for marine anti-corrosion protection and packing: Indonesia has a tropical rainforest climate with high heat and humidity, and the sea voyage is long, so coating protection and impact-resistant packaging had to meet very strict requirements.

3. Solution and On-Site Execution

Precise scheduling and quality control: The workshop ran shift rotations and carried out cutting, fabrication and welding strictly to drawings. High-build primer and topcoat were applied before dispatch to meet the specified corrosion protection life, and the batch passed the third-party supervisor's in-factory inspection.

Safe and well-engineered lifting plan: At the loading site, large H-section members were handled by dual-chain lifting with a heavy bridge gantry crane. Dedicated ground marshals directed the operation, using tag lines to keep each component stable and guide it precisely onto the red multi-axle heavy flatbed. "Zero accidents, zero damage" was the core principle of the loading operation.

Customized blocking and bracing: To prevent deformation or paint abrasion caused by movement at sea, timber battens were placed between components, and multiple steel straps and tensioners were used for securing.

Efficient logistics coordination: A dedicated coordinator followed the inland truck fleet to keep the dedicated route from the factory to the domestic port running smoothly, achieving seamless truck-to-vessel transfer.

4. Delivery Results

On time and to specification: All 650 tons of heavy steel structures and custom-shaped components were manufactured, coated and loaded, then departed for port on schedule and shipped to Indonesia.

Customer recognition: Strict dimensional accuracy and disciplined coating work earned high praise from the foreign site representative and the general contractor.
