Application scope

ASTM A53/A53M Type E/F specifies welded carbon steel pipes for the transport of general fluids such as steam, water, gas, and air. These pipes are manufactured using resistance welding (E) and furnace welding (F) methods, and are available in A and B grades. They can be galvanized or ungalvanized. The standard specifies the composition, tensile strength, and processing properties, and is suitable for both fluid transport and certain structural applications. It is applicable to general-purpose piping with medium to low pressure, threaded or welded connections.

Typical applications

Commonly used in low-pressure gas pipelines, water supply and drainage pipelines, fire protection pipelines, general fluid transportation and gathering pipelines, and also for structural pipes such as supports and railings. Grade B has slightly higher strength and wider applications. With its excellent forming and connection properties, and support for threaded, flanged, or welded assemblies, welded steel pipes are suitable for medium to low pressure fluid transportation applications where economy and convenient supply are important.
