Application scope
ASTM A263/264/265 standards define corrosion-resistant composite steel plates with a carbon steel or low-alloy steel base layer and a stainless steel or nickel-based alloy cladding. The three parts correspond to chromium steel, chromium-nickel austenitic steel, and a nickel and nickel alloy cladding, respectively. The composite plates combine the strength and load-bearing capacity of the base layer with the corrosion resistance and media resistance of the cladding. They are typically delivered in an annealed and bonded condition, suitable for economical, thick-walled structures requiring both pressure resistance and corrosion resistance.
Typical applications
Widely used in reactor, tower, and heat exchanger shells in the chemical and petrochemical industries, these shells feature multi-layered structures to resist corrosive media and a base layer to bear pressure loads. They are also commonly found in the linings of storage tanks and containers, seawater desalination plants, papermaking black liquor equipment, and salt evaporators—all operating in highly corrosive conditions. By ensuring service life while reducing overall material costs, they are a common and economical choice for large, corrosion-resistant pressure-bearing equipment.
