Application scope
ASTM A501/A501M specifies hot-formed welded (and seamless) carbon steel tubing for building and general structural applications, covering round, square, and rectangular sections, with grades A and B. Hot forming eliminates cold work stress, resulting in uniform properties. The standard specifies composition, tensile strength, and dimensional requirements, providing good weldability and structural load-bearing capacity. Suitable for heavy-duty hollow structural members with welded or bolted connections.
Typical applications
Hollow structures commonly used in heavy steel structures such as columns and main beams, bridge components, large equipment supports and platforms, and offshore platforms, are designed to withstand significant loads. Larger sizes and thicker-walled tubes are particularly suitable. Thanks to the uniform properties and good weldability resulting from thermoforming, they can meet high load-bearing and safety requirements, making them suitable for load-bearing structures primarily composed of hollow profiles in heavy industrial plants, bridges, and large equipment.
