Application scope
API 2W specifies high-strength quenched and tempered steel plates for offshore platform structures, available in Gr.50 and Gr.60 grades, delivered in TMCP or QT condition. The standard specifies requirements for composition, tensile strength, and low-temperature impact resistance, offering excellent low-temperature toughness and weldability while maintaining high strength. It is suitable for heavy-duty load-bearing components such as critical structures and pipeline nodes on offshore platforms.
Typical applications
Primarily used in critical structures, pipeline nodes, thick-walled components, and heavy-load areas of offshore platforms, bearing significant loads and harsh marine environments. Leveraging the high strength, excellent low-temperature toughness, and weldability resulting from TMCP or tempering processes, cross-sections can be reduced, and structural weight can be lessened, making it suitable for critical nodes in jacket structures, thick-plate connections, and other areas requiring high strength and safety.
