ASTM A135/A135M — Resistance welded steel pipe
Grades
Gr.A, Gr.B
Chemical composition and mechanical properties
| Grade | Chemical composition | Mechanical properties |
|---|---|---|
| Gr.A | C≤0.14, Mn≤0.90, P≤0.035, S≤0.040 | Rm 310-415 MPa, Rp0.2 ≥165 MPa, A≥27% |
| Gr.B | C≤0.17, Mn≤1.20, P≤0.035, S≤0.040 | Rm 345-450 MPa, Rp0.2 ≥185 MPa, A≥25% |
Application scope
ASTM A135/A135M specifies general-purpose resistance-welded (ERW) carbon steel pipes, with two grades, A and B. The standard specifies chemical composition, tensile properties, and process tests such as flattening and flaring for fluid transport and structural applications. The welds are inspected to ensure quality, with moderate strength, good processing and connection performance, and are suitable for medium- and low-pressure fluid transport, as well as general structural piping systems for fire protection, support, etc.
Typical applications
Commonly used in fire sprinkler and water supply and drainage pipelines, compressed air and low-pressure fluid transportation pipelines, as well as structural supports, railings and cable protection sleeves, etc.; Grade B has slightly higher strength. With the good dimensional consistency and economy of resistance welded pipes, and supporting threaded, grooved or welded connections, they are suitable for fluid transportation and general structural pipe applications with low pressure, bulk supply, and cost focus.
