818.48 Tons of ABS AH36 Hollow Sections Shipped to Turkey for Shipbuilding
Recently, 818.48 tons of ABS AH36 hollow section tubes (square and rectangular) supplied by PAC to one of Turkey's top three shipyards have been packed to high standards and successfully loaded for shipment.

I. Project Background
Recently, 818.48 tons of ABS AH36 hollow section tubes (square and rectangular) supplied by PAC to one of Turkey's top three shipyards have been packed to high standards and successfully loaded for shipment.
Our cooperation with this client spans three years, during which we mainly supplied premium shipbuilding plates in bulk. This order marks a deeper expansion of the partnership into new material categories. Built on that long-standing trust, the client nominated PAC directly to supply custom structural tubes for its newbuild vessels in accordance with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) rules.
II. Core Challenges: Demanding Standards and Special Processes
Shipbuilding materials carry exceptionally high safety and precision requirements. This order presented three technical challenges:
- Material and certification: full compliance with ABS class rules, using AH36 high-strength shipbuilding steel.
- Forming process: the client required square and rectangular tubes, which we produced by re-rolling round tubes seamlessly into rectangular and square sections. This round-to-square/rectangular cold forming process places extreme demands on wall stress control and surface integrity.
- Technical details pushed to the limit: before the order was confirmed, technical teams from both sides held lengthy in-depth discussions. Welding and load-bearing behaviour in ship structures is highly specific, and the client set extremely tight requirements on the corner R radius and dimensional tolerances of the square and rectangular tubes.
III. Solution and Execution
To deliver this customized batch of marine tubes flawlessly, our technical team worked closely with the production department:
- Rigorous engineering on parameters: responding to the client's concerns about R radius and dimensional tolerances, we ran repeated process calculations and trial samples to finalize the optimum forming dies and machining plan, fully meeting the shipyard's design requirements.
- Smooth transitions, uniform radii: as the site photos show, these square and rectangular tubes have very smooth inner-to-outer wall transitions and full, uniform R corners. This design effectively reduces stress concentration and greatly simplifies on-site welding.
- Strict quality control and packaging: every tube passes dimensional verification and flaw detection before leaving the plant. During stacking, timber dunnage is placed underneath and layers are aligned neatly so that tube ends are never crushed or deformed.
IV. Delivery Results and Customer Feedback
With the smooth shipment of these 818.48 tons, product quality fully meets ABS class standards. The client spoke highly of our strong technical conversion capability, precise quality control and on-time delivery.
Delivering exactly what the customer asks for is more than a slogan; it is the standard we apply throughout. The two sides are already discussing repeat orders for newbuild projects.
